As mentioned above, Tintala was not the intended end product for this project. It had originally started as a simple set of 50 animal drawings. However, I was so pleased with the results that I decided to take the project further. Tattoo art is a fascinating discipline of design and illustration, and I wanted to explore that world.

The animals featured in Tintala are all designed with Mexican sugar skulls in mind. The unique and distinctive style of sugar skulls was frequently referenced and each animal was illustrated with similar stylistic traits (such as colorful teeth, intricate ornamentation, and "flowered" eyes).

Tintala is one of my favorite projects in my portfolio. These illustrations took significant time. I had to sketch out one half, vectorize it, and then create the identical second half. The process was long and arduous, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The results are everything I had hoped for, and my ideas translated perfectly into reality.
